Rings Rings Rings!

A band of metal or other substantial material that adorns the finger as an ornament is called a ring.  Well, rings have surely come into their place as the years have gone on.  Of course there is your typical engagement ring, wedding band and claddagh ring, but I'm not talking about that.
I would like to introduce to you the world of ring selection!  The big, the bad and the fabulous!   As we have seen in magazines and on celebrities, rings are only getting bigger and more intricate.  Lets start with the full-finger rings, the ones that act as a skeletal piece of jewelry that crawls up each digit in chic articulated sections.   Now, for the upper-finger rings the ones that creep up the finger to the intermediate and distal phalanges (above the knuckles).  I was trying to be fancy, for once!  And a drumroll please, for the newest hybrid ring, two bands that are joined by a system of delicate chains to the lower and upper sectionals of your finger.  And, of course there is the classic single ring that is so large you almost need someone to hold your hand all night to keep it from falling off your wrist, but we are used to seeing those by now.
We have developed this sense of obsession with stacking jewels and this shows no sign of slowing down or coming to an end, and that's all the more reason to put a ring or five on.  Let's keep the the trophy and continue with the trends.

Wild Prints For Winter!

Well, us New Englanders have launched from Fall right into winter, OVERNIGHT!  The weather Gods needs to take a little chill pill on us way up here.  First, Hurricane Sandy comes in and sweeps away half of our coast and now Athena pummels us with some 3.5 inches of snow.  But, hey, the show must go on!
Now, that we are faced with the freezing winter weather we must embrace the exotic prints that are all the rage this season.  Animal printed accessories are going to be one of the best and most used looks of the season.  Whether real or faux, in the form of a cheetah-patterened bootie or a snakeskin-insprired hobo bag, these prints are what will add the zest to your daily look.  Mixing and matching prints are acceptable because after all the game isn't divided in the wild.  So, go out there and get wild!

Bergdorf Turns One Hundred & Eleven!

Last night at the Plaza Hotel things got a little wild as many celebrated the 111th Anniversary of the fabulous, Bergdorf Goodman.  This was the first time since 1951 that Bergdorf's has decided to mark and celebrate it's birthday.  They must have all been in desperate need to get their party on, huh?  This was a year of firsts for Bergdorf's.  Over 100 designers designed pieces to make up an exclusive anniversary collection, a documentary film was created and there was a book constructed in its honor.      There is only one Bergdorf Goodman in the world and it just so happens to be the summit of style, inspiration and service since 1901.
As I was meandering about the city I came to the corner of 5th & 58th and there it was.  The shining beautiful stone structured building wrapped in an oversized lavender ribbon, with iconic vintage Bergdorf silhouette's printed all over it, that surrounded the entire building.  We are all aware that Bergdorf's is known for it's window displays.  If you didn't know that, now you do and make sure you don't forget it!  The current theme was recently unveiled and is sporting an 111th Anniversary theme.  These windows are portraying the history of Bergdorf's, the history of fashion, a representation of the building and more secrets and surprises.  The celebration is a continuous theme throughout the store as well.  The attention to detail that you see in these windows is magnifying.  If you are nearby it is worth checking out!  But for now I have posted them so you can use your imagination and picture the 3D version of these eccentric art creations.

These windows kind of portray that "if you wear these articles of clothing you can run the world" type thing.  I mean common, there is a little bit of everything going on here.  Embracing of our societies current printed fabric obsession, the culmination of every air transportation craft known to man hovering over what looks like three fashion forward giants strutting down 5th Ave., renderings of the original Bergdorf's and well everything else that is packed into these chaotically fabulous windows.  Call me crazy, but I would love to be one of those mannequins looking out at the world to see the reactions and count the number of finger prints that cumulate on the windows as they stare in awe.

One city, one store, one experience!

And Over In London!

Meanwhile, over in the land of the Royals they had a tastefully exciting Fashion Week full of cupcakes and fabric.  When viewed together it was a week of whimsical meets luxurious meets fluffy marshmallows.  I found that comparing the garments to food not only made for an entertaining time but also created an amusing way to relate to the clothing structure.  Let's begin with breakfast.

Mulberry's delicious collection consisted of colors like camel, mint, black and white.  First, let's indulge in the chocolate chip pancake look that we see at the top.  The long oversized coat adorned with small black flowers paired with the ever so popular knee length skirt are two practical pieces that are long-lasting.  Carrying on with the camel on camel look the leather top creates this scrumptious muffin top as it softly drapes over the waistline of the pants.  Londoners like their tea with breakfast and this minty outfit flows agains the body so silky smooth with pleats to create a subtle ripple effect.  I'm loving the solid colored outfits that we are seeing throughout this collection.

John Rocha's blasted the runway with a fruit salad collection of colors.  Can we please start with the head wear?  That is no cherry on top, it's more like a puff pastry that has consumed the entire plate, if you get what I'm saying.  More over, the dresses all resemble one another with their frilly bodice and similar fabric choices.  From the apple, to the lemon, to the raspberry is a fresh array of beautiful evening wear.

Meadham Kirchhoff fruitfully designed an out of the box and over the top collection, as usual.  From top to bottom, the marshmallow puffed overcoat with azure blue bows trickling down the from made for an unusual and individual look.  The cupcake puff skirt paired with checkered mid-thigh shorts was such a picnic friendly sight to see.  Lastly, to throw a little lemon zest on top, the full body jumper was quite attractive and the whipped cream bows with cherry colored gems put the icing on the cake for Kirchhoff.

Now I'm starving!

3 Fall Necessary Accessories!

Adorn your wrist with a flashy two toned watch this season.  As we are well aware, the stacking of bracelets and watches has become a statement in modern day fashion.  The more the better!  It's easy to mix and match when you have a watch that's in both the silver and gold family.  Watches are no longer made just to tell time.  Pshh, that's old school.  Michael Kors watches are one of my favorites because they are affordable and very fashion forward.  There are so many different shapes and sizes of two toned watches out there so, take your pick.  These pieces are timeless, no pun intended, they have been in style for ages and have yet to timeout, yes pun intended.

On those bitter Fall mornings wrap yourself up with a knit scarf.  Scarves have been a trend for a while, especially the knit ones.  To be honest, it's quite simple why they are worn by so many women.  Because they are versatile and almost always appropriate.  I know, I know, I'm not telling you something you don't already know, especially if you are fashion savvy.  But, I do want to tell you that the graphic scarves will be in this Fall, in full swing.  But so will those solid colorful ones.

OK, so my mom hates them and I love them...head ties.  I don't know if they are taking place of a hat, probably not because there is nothing warm about them, but they are being hated by some and loved by many.  As I was strolling down the streets of the Big Apple, I noticed that these head ties are worn in such a variety of ways.  Generally, with your hair down, they create a nest like shape on top of your head and it's kinda fabulous, when worn right.  I've seen thick ones, thin ones, beaded ones and more.  Depending on the shape of your head, I feel like they can be pretty fun to play with.  Try it out!

Go get em'!

Kors It's Stripes!

Michael Kors sweeping theme of Spring 2013 was stripes, stripes and more stripes.  But honestly, no one else could have deconstructed the traditional vertical or horizontal striped pattern better than Michael himself.  Even down to the repeated exaggerated side part of the models, stripes stole the show.  The full striped jumpsuit, whether its the tripping effect that it has on your eyes or the genuine attraction that draws you to look at it, you were hooked.  It's the jail trend in full swing.  Linear and perfect, no other way to describe it.

Stay in line!

Leather On The Bottom, Blazer On The Top!

Try the new alternative for a pant suit.  If you dare, go out and get a pair of stretch leather leggings and match them with a loose boxy blazer.  Black leather leggings are the most slimming (does not mean you can not try other colors) and they look the best with a pop, either in the blazer or in the under layer (the brighter the better!).  This outfit is simply fabulous for a casual night at the bar or an office meeting, it can swing both ways!  The boxier and more oversized the blazer is the more casual the outfit will look.  What are you waiting for...go get em'!
