A 10 Year Old's Perspective!

As I lay on my beat up leather ABC Carpet & Home couch with my cousin we discussed fashion.  What else do I ever talk about anyway?  Once she began rattling off outfits and what she notices as "fashionable", I started thinking.  Why not hear what she has to say?  A fashion perspective from a 10 year old could be quite comical.  But, considering she is in my family, I had a feeling it could be spot on.
When asked, what are the current trends?, she replied with such wit, "Patterned pants, fur coats and vests, scarves, oversized knit sweaters, neon colors, dangling earrings and large rings."  Then she says with such vigor, "As for the feet, booties, they are everywhere!"  After I picked up my jaw, I kept the questions coming.  Where do you get your fashion sense from? And without hesitation, literally none, she blurts, "the street, duh!".  So right then and there I handed her the computer.  In this day and age you are born knowing how to operate a MacBook so, I asked her to find outfits that are in style.  Check out what she found.

She found this all on her own, I shit you not!  I peered over and she was on Bloomingdales.com.  Who knows what Bloomingdales is at age 10?  It's fabulous.  I ended with this,  "What would you like to be when you grown up?"  The answer was, "A fashion designer."  Now, that explains it all, right?  So, after all, regardless of who becomes President, this is proof that we will have fabulous fashion in the future if there are more young girls that think like this.

In the words of a 10 year old, "Stay like me, fabulous!"

3 Fall Necessary Accessories!

Adorn your wrist with a flashy two toned watch this season.  As we are well aware, the stacking of bracelets and watches has become a statement in modern day fashion.  The more the better!  It's easy to mix and match when you have a watch that's in both the silver and gold family.  Watches are no longer made just to tell time.  Pshh, that's old school.  Michael Kors watches are one of my favorites because they are affordable and very fashion forward.  There are so many different shapes and sizes of two toned watches out there so, take your pick.  These pieces are timeless, no pun intended, they have been in style for ages and have yet to timeout, yes pun intended.

On those bitter Fall mornings wrap yourself up with a knit scarf.  Scarves have been a trend for a while, especially the knit ones.  To be honest, it's quite simple why they are worn by so many women.  Because they are versatile and almost always appropriate.  I know, I know, I'm not telling you something you don't already know, especially if you are fashion savvy.  But, I do want to tell you that the graphic scarves will be in this Fall, in full swing.  But so will those solid colorful ones.

OK, so my mom hates them and I love them...head ties.  I don't know if they are taking place of a hat, probably not because there is nothing warm about them, but they are being hated by some and loved by many.  As I was strolling down the streets of the Big Apple, I noticed that these head ties are worn in such a variety of ways.  Generally, with your hair down, they create a nest like shape on top of your head and it's kinda fabulous, when worn right.  I've seen thick ones, thin ones, beaded ones and more.  Depending on the shape of your head, I feel like they can be pretty fun to play with.  Try it out!

Go get em'!

Awkward Change in Season!

It's that awkward fashion time of year.  When you aren't really sure what to wear because it's in between seasons.  One day you can get away with your skimpy revealing sundress and the other you're searching for that one garment that will keep the cool morning breeze from standing your hair straight up.  I have to confess that I do love the change in seasons because it causes me to dig into my fashion dictionary and mix and match the warm with the cool.  Let's see how these women have mastered the shift in seasons.

Fall 2012 Trend Report: Splashes Of Leather!

What's more powerful than sleek buttery looking leather on a woman?  Not much.  We've seen the whole leather from head to toe get up and this season designers have decided to take it down a notch, mix up the conservative with the broad-minded.  Below you can see how they have mixed leather with lace, knits sweaters, oversized beaded blazer and you can also see that we aren't just working with your traditional fixed black color.  If you are feeling a tad edgy and you want to add something to your prim and proper outfit, why not grace it with the presence of leather?
Leather is always controversial in the ever so competitive world of fashion.  You have your die hard vegans and your genuine leather thirsters.  Due to our fast paced world of technology and fabric development we have pleather, plastic leather.  If I may say so myself, it's quite fabulous and is a true representation of unadulterated leather, when made correctly.  So there you have it.  Everyone can be happy and trendy, no matter what their political views are!

Change Of Heart!

The fire is lit, the leaves are falling and Spring 2013 Fashion Week has officially ended.  There is no longer a reason to marvel over warm weather clothing, unless of course you are living in a warm place year round.  And if that's the case, I envy you, bitch!
In previous blog posts I mentioned some of the Fall 2012 trends that we are expecting to see once the sun briskly takes a turn for hibernation and the leaves rapidly plummet to the ground.  But lets not wallow in it now and try to think about the positive, the lust we all have for Fall clothing.
How about those body confining garments known as jumpsuits.  If you can get past the whole 'it takes me 20 minutes to go to the bathroom' thing, then these create fabulous effortless outfits.  What's easier than wearing a jumpsuit?  It's already put together, it all matches and it's in style.  As you can see below designers have created multiple styles of the jumpsuit.  Sleeveless, deep V-neck, capri style bottom are all ways that the jumpsuit is different, it's not a uniform style.  I'm not naive, I know that this ensemble generally caters to the tall and skinny.  But it's always worth it to try one on and see for yourself.  You never know, it could accent your curves and bring out your figure or it could make you look like Santa squeezing down a chimney.  But hey, it's always worth the try!

Fall 2012 Trend Report: Belted Dresses

OMG, belted dresses are the thing this Fall.  They are clearly fabulous because they took over the runway like never before.  Everything from skinny to wide, beaded to leather, they were all out there.  These waist cinching beauties have become a statement piece for dresses these day.  I love seeing the runway fashion trickle down to the streets.  Belts are also a great way to show off your curves because they accent your waist.  They can also spice up your outfit and make it a little more exciting.  See how it's done!
