Dressing Logically!

     Unless you are living under a rock, where you have no weather perception or an escape tactic, then you know that "baby it's cold outside" (sang with vocals full of joy and cheer and a subtle teeth chatter).  So, just what are those cold weather essentials?  Well, let's see.  If we are traveling to those arctic snooty climates of Vail, Aspen or Jackson Hole you need to be fully bundled.  

     Let's start with the coat.  This has to make a statement because when you are on the street it's all you have to show off.  So button up, jazz up and show off.  Now, for our device-obsessed fingers we have gloves to keep them warm.  If you want my advice, leather is the way to go.  The toes need some love and warmth too.  Get a nice fur lined boot that allows you the shlep through the snow without worrying about getting your feet wet and cold.  Lastly, there is no cold weather look that is complete without a scarf or hat.  It will allow you to wrap yourself up in style and keep trending during the cold months.

Barneys & Disney!

     Imagine this, Barneys New York, the luxury brand specialty retailer, and the Walt Disney Company, the world's leading entertainment company, clashing together!  Unveiled at the Barneys New York on Madison Avenue, the flagship store, on November 14th was the 2012 Holiday project, Electric Holiday.
     This was the launching of the store and the brand coming together and creating products, window displays, a short film (screened in the Barnys windows), and a 3D light show all as part of the collaboration Electric Holiday.  In this short film clip, Minnie Mouse realizes that she has had a life long dream of becoming a Parisian model and ends up stomping the runway in a Lanvin dress.  Along side her is Balmin dressed Goofy, Dolce & Gabbana wrapped Daisy Duck and Balenciaga wearing Mickey Mouse.
     This is an amazing idea.  Bringing together the two legendary worlds.  Everyone can relate to the Disney characters, if they didn't grown up watching them, their kids did.  Now, they have changed the image of them for the Holiday season, giving us yet another way to remember them.  What do you think?

Color At The End Of The Runway!

     Lanvin put construction front and center in this Springs fashion show.  I found myself admiring these garments one by one and trying to solve the mystery of how they were constructed.  Many garments were half of something.  For example, half of the top would be a tank and the other half would be a blazer.  That's what I mean about the construction being a mystery that I, Harriet the spy, have to solve.  Thankfully my technical vision goggles were spot on.  I have to say that some of it was a bit out there in left field, like the one shoulder swim suit that's worn with belted loose fitted pants.  But it's different and different keeps the people intrigued and coming back for more.  

     Viewing the collection, it seemed like a contemporary tailored look was going to exist throughout the show.  But the deeper we went the more exotic it got.  Graphic dresses to glitzy jumpsuits changed the mood of the show and added an edgy look to a softer collection.  I also noticed the accessories were quite over the top but I found myself looking past that and saying that they actually work well with the chic punk mix that's going on.  

     In closing, literally, the show ended with a bang.  We saw black and white for the entire show and then a rainbow bomb went off.  This short lineup of petite satin shift dresses seemed to have such simple construction behind them, but then the surprise panels on the side flashed beads and beautiful embroidery.  These looks are simple and elegant but have such a loud statement due to the shocking color choices.  It was a fantastic show! Lanvin truly never ceases to amaze.
